The bartenders at my regular stop, I think, have goddammed little interest in getting to know me (they haven't spit in my glass yet!) but I tip $1 for every beer I get because I hated the customer service job that I used to have. I double tipped them last night, since they were doing their Christmas party, but that was just because they were doing their Christmas party.
Tipping doesn't make you friends with the bartender. It just means that they ask you whether you're ready for another drink. Or that they ask more often. In general they couldn't care less about whether you live or die, as long as you don't die on the property. The bartender will pour your drinks, but she/he is not your friend, canned greetings notwithstanding. Just drink your drink and don't make their shift any more difficult than it already is.
Is a dollar per each 5-8 dollar drink a good tip? (Alcohol)
