Kids develop at different paces and head in different directions, so it's hard to say what's "normal".

Our daughter is ten. She's certainly self-aware, she worries a little about how she comes across to others, and she's started to take an interest in her appearance, but fundamentally she remains a confident, outgoing kid. However, she's unusual in that she's home-schooled, and she has parents who strongly believe that kids her age shouldn't have smartphones, and their access to social media access should be very limited and monitored. If a ten year-old is getting all kinds of peer-pressure crap from the insecure, confused, celebrity-obsessed, and possibly psychologically damaged kids they spend most of their time with, then it's easy to see how they might end up as you describe.
