It's not my worst, but it's not my best either. I have a family member struggling with stage 4 cancer and all we can do at this point is stay positive and hope for the best through continued treatment. I also lost another more distant family member a few days ago very unexpectedly. I had a friend completely ghost me for no reason I could think of either (why people tell you they have a lot of fun with you and can't wait to hang out, and then all of a sudden cut all ties is beyond me).
I'm at a confusing point in my life and trying to figure things out.
My worst years have probably been 2012, 2016, and 2019. I experienced a very tragic and unexpected loss in 2012, several losses in 2016 and a bunch of bullshit change (as well as meet one of the most psycho people I've ever known), and there were 3 cancer diagnoses in my family after decades of no cancer or terminal illness in 2019. Luckily two have fully recovered and the last is the one still fighting. I also dealt with being fucked over by several people in 2019 and it was overall a miserable year.
I think my best year in a long time was 2017. I felt relaxed, carefree, and happy for the first time in a long time, but of course that was very short lived.
Cancer is one of my biggest fear so I can't imagine how scary it is to those who are actually suffering from it. I hope your family member is doing the best fighting cancer.
Also, don't feel bad about yourself regarding those 'friend' and people who took you for granted, abandoning you for no reason. It shows how much of assholes they're hence it's a waste of your time making friends with those type of people. Hope you find true, better friends who genuinely support you both physically and mentally.

Cancer is one of my biggest fear so I can't imagine how scary it is to those who are actually suffering from it. I hope your family member is doing the best fighting cancer.
