    It's always been normal, and something that most people have done since the earliest times.

    However, you probably mean publicly normalized in Western culture. In that case, my guess is around the 70's.

    There's no way something so improper would be discussed openly in the 50's, and in the 60's, people were too busy practicing free love, smoking weed, and drawing peace signs.

    I dont udnerstand why the fuck religion thinks masturbation is ''Wrong''. Look you brainwashed retards, you say that God created EVERYTHING on Earth including masturbation, so everything made by God is natural, isnt it? Then why the fuck isnt nudity, masturbation, sex etc natural too? You hypocrites.

      I've searched over the Bible several times to see if it actually says masturbation is wrong. My conclusion is no.

      People like to use the story of Onan (from whose name the word onanism comes from) to say that masturbation is wrong.

      However, this is taken out of context, as God killed Onan for his selfishness in not wanting to raise up a child for his dead brother.

      Masturbation is usually accompanied by lustful, sinful thoughts, which the Bible does say are wrong. The act of masturbation, however, doesn't seem to be problematic.

    It was always normal. Society makes it awkward.
    Kids growing up start to feel horny and they rub there genitals against things and then it turns in to action (hand)
