when children are concieved they acept genes from both the mother and father taking from each parent, when both parents have the same genes it can cause things...
the "side effects" common in inbreeding are highly unlikely after one generation. While they are more likely to crop up in a child from siblings than say, a couple who are not related in any way, it is still unlikely unless the inbreeding continues for several more generations. In ancient times, marrying a sibling was not out of the ordinary.
