Im not the man in the mirror, is this normal?

Not sure if this question was been asked before. Sometimes when i stare into a mirror i feel like its not really me looking back. I feel so strange when this happens. i often avoid looking at mirrors altogether. Can someone tell me what this means and is it even normal to feel this way?

Sounds like depersonalization to me. You should see someone about it if that's an option.

Try seeing an old guy with white hair, when you feel 35 and live life to the fullest.
I cannot reconcile the 66 year old guy in the mirror with the person I feel I am. I have no wrinkles, lines, double chins or bags under my eyes, but my hair is so white and old looking. It creeps me out.

I am who I am. It's just weird, though.
Anyway, now that I'm a platinum blonde, I want to find out if blondes really do have more fun.

It's me you're looking at, and I wish you'd stop. It makes me very uncomfortable

It could be an inner ear disorder. Because I had something similar when I have a sinus infection, or cold.

When I look at the mirror sometimes I see myself as a boy although everyone else sees a girl, I am not a transsexual or anything though, I think that'd be kind of vain and pointless. I can't imagine that many people are all too satisfied with what they look like compared to who they are.

  • I did a report on a condition with similar symptoms to yours a few years ago. Have you ever suffered any head trauma? Long story short, people who have suffered trauma to their brains can suffer a "disconnect" in the brain.

The bridge between the region in the brain that interprets faces and the one that generates the appropriate emotional response gets damaged. Therefore, when you see a face, you feel no emotion, no response, and feel alienated; almost like your face isn't yours.

People with this often think their parents and loved ones are impostors because they do not feel any connection to them, even though they know they should.

I don't want to make mountains out of molehills though. I don't know your whole story and can only speculate. The name of this disorder escapes me though, I remember a book I read, called phantoms in the brain, mentioning this, and also a documentary on the work done by neurologist V.S. Ramachandran (one of the coolest people ever!!

If you are concerned, talk to a professional.

Or google V.S. Ramachandran. He is a bad ass.

Do you feel that u tell yourself that u grown up so much over the years that you barely recognise your self maybe? Because it happens to me as well.

Hmm, that's pretty off the wall. Is it a bit of a thriller seeing yourself? I'm not sure but it sounds bad, dangerous even.

Make that change so that feeling becomes history. Don't worry too much though, no one's self esteem is invincible.

I think i know what you mean

If i just stare at myself in the mirror for a long time, i also feel like it's not me looking back.

It doesn't really bother me too much though.
