I have this project I’m supposed do on the American West. The good news is, I can choose what I want it to be about, as long as it’s American West related. Bad news it...i’m horrible at descision making.

The choice that gets the most votes, I’ll do for my project.

    How about something to do with how many millionaires were made in the old west. You could choose from oil, gold, or railroad barons - although you'll probably find the most accurate reference material on the railroad guys.

      True, I could. It seemed to be easy back then to get money. As long as you knew where and how.

    I recently watched Back To The Future III again. You probably remember one of the gags in the film was about how Doc sent Marty back to 1880 wearing 1950s Hollywood western clothes.

    How about something on how accurate movie depictions of the Wild West really are and how that means the popular conception of that period of American history is distorted? From what I've read, it was a whole lot less lawless than Hollywood depicts, and when gunfights did occur, they often involved people getting shot in the back, rather than the dramatic High Noon crap.

    For example, the iconic gunfight at the OK Coral was a chaotic brawl that lasted all of 30 seconds, and nobody involved really deserved to wear a white hat.

      Yeah, going through this course has taught me that the west was...more tame than in the movies. But wild in it’s own way.
      There were plenty of skirmmishes that resulted in fatalities. But they weren’t usually like Hollywood predicts.
      But when there were outlaws, they were bad. Notable really.
