I'm sorry, WHAT THE FUCK!? You pay $500 a month and are denied use to a kitchen and hot water. That is blatantly illegal. That is under no circumstances acceptable on any way whatsoever. I feel like this is an ongoing IIN story that I haven't been here to see.

Listen, I worked in law. There us no lease agreement that could be held up in claims court that denies you basic human rights under tenancy. You could be owed back all the money you have paid in rent plus reperations for your unnecessary expenses and honestly, your emotional stress related to these issues. If you have no documentation of what is going on, start documenting it now.

Look up the laws on acceptable voice/video recordings in your state. Certain states won't allow recordings as evidence in a tort without the consent of both parties. If you live in a non consent state, record your landlord saying you are not allowed to have access to the kitchen or hot water & bring it to a lawyer

If you don't record it all anyways. Make journal entries, time lines, collect receipts, document everything.

If they think you have ample evidence of what your actually claiming a civil lawyer will rep you for free because you could sue for massive damages for flagrant abuses of human rights. Like charging you a bunch of money and refusing to let you eat or use hot water? That is so grounds for a lawsuit.

Do these people have other tenants?

Anyways go to reddit r/legal. Post there because I know you can't afford an actual lawyer in your circumstances, but you can get one for free easily as long as you establish reasonable legal proof for what you are claiming here.

If you have proof, you'll get repped like rat bait, holy shit. No kitchen access or hot water...what the fuck...

The only explanation I can think of is that this is some kind of unwritten shady agreement. That or OP is getting unlawfully scammed and needs to take legal action to bring this MF down!

I know, I hope OP sues that crooked landlord. Some people are really disgusting, opportunistic pigs.

What is horrible is that some people are greedy for money.

It's not just greedy, but freaking crazy, and entitled. I'm so grateful to God that I haven't had a roommate since I was in college, and lived in the dorms. Living with people together in a house, and sharing space kinda doesn't appeal to me say the least.

I think the landlord in this situation is just an outright opportunist abuser! I feel so bad for OP, and I just hope, and pray for things to improve! šŸ˜‡šŸ™šŸ»šŸ•Š

I know laws vary between places, but in the UK access to running hot water is considered a basic human neccessity and there are strict conditions around how quickly things must be repaired.

I imagine there must be similar rules in most developed countries.

Yeah, unfortunately America is pretty subpar with the human rights stuff, ofc. This person does have legitimate grounds to take this to claims court. Reading the comments though, it seems like they are uninterested, which is unfortunate. Lots of excuses, not a lot of empowerment.

        • If I go to court ill make a small sum of money and than have no where to live. So long term it doesn't make any sense since I will still be in the streets.

Yeah, this guy has been posting about this situation for a while and he flatly refuses to take any sort of action. I've given up on it. You can lead a horse to water.

          Comment Hidden ( show )
    • Yes, they do stuff like this to the other tenants as well but the tenants also equally fight with one another so doubt they would team together to do a class action lawsuit.

Self defeating and irrelevant. Anyways, get thee to reddit legal. Collect evidence, anything you can. Research tenant rights. Read your lease with a fine toothed COMB...every clause. Based on some of what you've said the entire lease might be void, but it depends on your tenancy agreements. Obvs for hot water you may have to pay for electric, but denial of the use of kitchen facilities...

You'll need evidence to go the legal route. Plenty of it & it would help to have other tenants to contribute. You don't seem very interested in pursuing the resources at your disposal

Unless you did not pay an electric bill ofc

Many people have commented and told you to get a free consultation with a lawyer. You have not listened and it is your own fault at this point. What they're doing to you is illegal and you can probably sue, but definitely put an end to it. If you dont want to fix the issue its on you. Sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and that takes work.

Your landlord sounds like a straight up crook, and a criminal who takes advantage of people when they're down.

    • The tenants do not get along with each other. The landlord never gave me paperwork. It basically they said that they needed 200 dollar deposit and 500 for rent. I can legally prove I live here but we have no paperwork. Also one of the other tenents has been trying to force sex on me and that part of why I need to get out. They said they only rent on a monthly bases so no paperwork was needed.

      • If someone is trying to sexually assault you, then maybe you should inform the police? A simple visit from a cop should be a good enough deterrent.

Do you live near an overpass? That might solve your problem since every time you've asked this over the last half year, none of the advice people have given has helped. Unless the attention is somehow therapeutic to you.

Sounds like a bad idea. Not sure but I think a tent gets a lot colder than a house at winter. You need money for food at the bare minimum, maybe unless you become very skilled at hunting and gathering (recognising wild edibles) as well as preserving food for harder times. In a tent you have also no protection of either yourself or your properties. I hope you have actually practised living outdoors at all seasons, before you decide to make it permanent. As 1WeirdGuy said you can probably sue them as well, I think thats a better option

    • You act like I don't have a job. I have food money just not enough rent money to get out and he now is saying I owe him repair money for the property of things I broke. So I scared he gonna counter sue. Which if he sues me I am fucked because I make way less. I tried calling social services and all the lines are tied up because stupid corona virus so I can't even report this shit to anyone! Also sueing is a temporary solution since I will still be out of a place to live.

Contact your city assistance center, or any major church. There is emergency shelter available for people; and if you have a job they will also assist you to find other housing.

They also might take legal action against your current landlord as well.

    • I tried tonight and nobody is answering I guess lines are tied up thanks to corona virus and I not sure what to do anymore. I am renting a tent next week and going to find a portable battery so I can charge phone outside. I can't deal with this anymore. Id rather be shot dead than fucking live here.
