Ehh. There's no such thing as "bad taste" when it comes to other human beings. You like what you like, and that might not be the same thing everyone else likes. That doesn't mean there's anything wrong or weird about you.
But did they have a fanbase before they were famous for what they did? Is their fame the fanbase, or their looks? If it was their looks, they'd already have had it.
