Is it normal when spouse is away to demand that he texts you at least twice a day?

My friend's husband is on a 5 day vacation to attend a wedding. My friend could not go due to work obligations. She is complaining to me about how mad she is that he isn't texting or calling her at least twice a day. She is alone, and wants someone to check in on her to make sure she is okay. She is mad at him because he keeps forgetting about her. I really think she is over reacting, and tried to explain that he is with family and friends and likely very distracted. He hasn't seen family in over a year! I told her to give him a break, and if she wanted I could text her twice a day to check on her. She didn't get angry with me, but she was a little snappy. Is her behavior normal? Do most women act this way when their husband is gone? Is her request/demand of her husband normal???

    If she wants a couple texts a day and she's upset over not getting it, then it is what it is. She has the right to feel that way. It's kinda strange that he doesn't care to check in occasionally too, so I can see that making things worse.

    I don't think a couple texts a day is asking much at all. He might be busy all day but there's no excuse for why he couldn't take a few minutes in the morning and before bed. I guess if the time zones were imconvenient (if that's an issue here) maybe but even then it's not too difficult to work around that.

    Sometimes people just want to vent, they don't want you to solve their problem...they want you to listen. Since you couldn't even begin to solve her problem, common sense says she just wanted comfort and an ear. The stuff you said to her wasn't helpful, it's also dismissive of her feelings. It doesn't matter how you feel about it and it doesn matter if other women are like this...it's about her.

    She sounds a little off and needs to be straightened out, preferably by her own husband.
