Is it normal when people say they hate their country,

I get annoyed? I’m specifically referring to America, as I am an American. First off, I’m not very patriotic, never was, but in the specific state I live in, I’m very comfortable. Aside from Potholes everywhere that never get fixed, I’m content. This country isn’t perfect, we have a lot of shit....but, so does almost EVERY other country. Nowhere is perfect, but I’m luckily to have been born where I was and I am grateful for the stability my hardworking parents were able to provide for me.

So, while I’ve agreed that we’re not perfect and the current state of America is quite the fucking mess (yet still better off than many other places) I am glad I live here. When I see people who also live in America complaining about the country, I’m like alright, if you hate it so much then why are you still here? Many people from other parts of the world have literally worked so hard to get here, for whatever the reason may be, and you were born here and can’t appreciate how lucky you were to not have to gohrough any of that hardship to be there.

Eighty percent of my coworkers are not from America and they have all fought and done their parts to get here. They don’t complain. So why do my fellow young adults bitch and moan about this place so much?

If you don’t like it just leave... no place is perfect, but everywhere has its ups and downs. And not to be ‘that person’ but the main guy who complains about this is very hardcore into social justice and there’s nothing wrong with that, but he is very extreme to the point where I feel like he’s just trying hard for some epussy or to cover up some guilt in his life. Not sure.

Agreed. America is an awesome country compared to a lot of the complete failures around the world. It's got lots of freedom, and a good gdp per capita.

America is the only country that recognizes natural law. Such as the natural law of free speech, the goverment doesn’t need to permit you for you to say anything you want, you can already do it.

I think it's very liberating to be able to call your own country shit when it is shit. They use patriotism and guilt to silence any opposition to government injustice and corruption.

I think it's human nature for people to complain about where they live if they have always lived there.

However I am an immigrant so I rarely do this, as I have worked very hard to be given the chance to live where I do. I suppose it makes you see things in a different light.

For the record I don't think the complainers are unpatriotic - I think they just see flaws in the things around them and point them out. I don't think it's so terrible, it keeps the pressure on for things to change for the better. It just sounds odd to us immigrants because we've come from somewhere worse, usually, so we don't see the flaws because we're blinded by the positives.

To me I hate certain things about this country but I don’t hate the country. And it’s right to speak out about what you don’t like about this country. We have every right to complain about our country. It’s called freedom of speech. Not complaining about the problems in our country means nothing will be done about them.

    • Yes, I totally agree, but perhaps I phrased it wrong. He’s less complaining about legitimate issues, and moreso whining about minor things in order to gain some e-clout. There is never any possible solution or call to action with his claims.

Maybe I'm missing something, but complaining about something being shit if it's shit isn't "unpatriotic".

Complaining about shit being shit in big enough volumes of people is how shit gets fixed.

I don't hate my country, but I think some of the things done here are fucked and the only way those things will change is if enough people voice their opinions.

If you mean complaining about shit with no intention of doing anything, then I kinda understand...but even so...if it's a legitimate short falln then I don't see a huge problem.

"If you don't like it then get out" is a pretty retarded reaction. I've never understood that in terms of a country. That's not how it works.

If you can't stop twisting others words to get your bizarre misinterpretations, I don't see why anyone should bother with you. You've not once shown any form of knowledge outside your own apparently very limited sphere, or even basic reading comprehension. Either you're incredibly stupid, or you're a shit stirring troll...which is really just a rephrasing of the first part of my sentence.

I'll indulge you once further, that's it.

Show me once where I have said I "hate" the US. What a stupid idea. Getting that from anything I have said is such a ridiculous stretch, that all it serves to do is make you look like a fucktard.

Every country has its pros and cons.

My favorite country is where pathetic bastards can get boners. What the fucking point if you cant get it up? Too many people just don't know what pathetic really means.

    • I mean I meant it in the way that he complains and cries and does nothing. More often than not he’s whining about minor things and he largely goes ignored. Many people find him obnoxious.

And that’s fine, you’re entitled to your opinion, but when he’s constantly calling the country trash and shit, then I can’t imagine why he’d want to stay. What’s stopping him, honestly? If he wants to badmouth it so much I’m not sure why he’s perfectly comfortable staying put where he is.

Fair enough. I think we're talking about two different things.

Some people are just entitled douches.

It is nice that you have the freedom to speak. USA is the only country that is guaranteed that right.

        Why?

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Theses are the fundamental cornerstones of a freedom? You're not a fan Charli?

Good job completely failing to understand. Or perhaps it's intentional redirection, maybe I'm not giving you enough credit.

I'm referring to the "only country that is guaranteed that right" bit.

Just shows a complete lack of knowledge of the outside world. There are many countries with this "right". You're not special.

Well. You are...but not the way you think.

I may be misinformed. Please correct me if I am wrong. I was under the impression that the USA was the only country guaranteed the right to free speech. Please educate me of the other countries.

...you're asking for proof...that other countries don't labour under the false apprehension...that they need a law or whatever...to protect the "right" to speak their mind freely?

Normal people understand that only countries with fucked up dictatorships and whatnot are not free to do so. No laws required.

I dunno what to tell you, champ. Try not isolating yourself so much.

              Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Most countries have the right to free speech. All it means is that the government can't detain you for saying xyz, but you can still be prosecuted for things like racism. Just the other day there was a girl sentenced to something like 15 years for riding into a black childs birthday party with a confederate flag shouting racist death threats.

So like most countries its the right to free speech with the responsibility to not infringe another persons universal rights or commit a crime, the latter of which the government can determine.

The bitch had it coming who the hell yells death threats at kids I don't care what race the person is death threats are serious and at kids no less sorry the free speech arguement stops when you traumatize kids. And at a birthday party no less.

I am a war veteran and anyone who really doesn't like America can GET THE FUCK OUT to a place they think is better!!!

    Comment Hidden ( show )
  • Ok, so some one does it hard to get to america therefore others can't complain about things? So you would be so cruel and be like "Oh I had a hard life, now everyone should".

Look I don't care for boat people doing it hard to get wherever. how hard is it to sit on a fucking boat. I do agree that a lot of people are complaining to much and have this entitled way of thinking. First thing someone does is pull out there phone, start filming and be like "nnnn nnnnn thats illegal" and its mostly over pathetic shit like someone didn't have there blinker on long enough.

I love My island. It's just some people in it that are a worry.
