  • I think people deserve to have a choice as to what food they bring into their homes. It comes down to basic dignity - I imagine it would feel very degrading to have your autonomy taken away while being judged as incapable of making your own smart choices without being given the chance to do so. And degrading and dehumanising people only makes the whole situation worse.

    It does become a problem, however, because there are many who abuse it. It SHOULD be spent on healthy stuff, because it is meant to sustain the families or individuals it goes to. Proteins, fruit and veg really aren't that expensive, at least not in the Walmart/Ingles/Harris Teeter's I've been to. Wholefoods was pretty decent, too. But people also deserve to be able to treat themselves and choose how and when they do that.

    So ideally, the system would adequately support that. But I guess that's kinda complicated.
