  • When controlled trophy hunting is actually beneficial. Locals sell the rights to hunt certain animals, they take guides out to show the one to shoot usually a sick or aggressive member of the species.
The money made from this is then used to hire workers to protect the animal from illegal poaching.

This enables them to regulate the population, keep poachers out, and provide a source of income for the impoverished areas.

    • Facts and statistics proves you and those advocates for hunting wrong in every way. I know what I am writing is long, but please take the time to read everything. I dont intend to be rude to you anyway, but I cant control my emotions on this matter:

Guns were discoverd in the 1400s, but it wasnt until the 1800s when trophy hunting became popular. Since then hunters and their paid advocates use the excuse when controlled trophy hunting is beneficial and protects animals from their own kind. THIS IS TOTALLY GROUNDLESS< STATISTICS PROVES IT WRONG IN EVERY WAY. Aggressive members of the species wont bother to kill nearly 2 of their own kind, while one single human would hunter would shoot 200 in their life time. Non of the animals needed protection if we left them alone in the first place, also this blaspheme claim to glorify this heinous act has been proven to be bogus, every scientists and researchers agree with it. it is with this claim to protect elephants from themselves trophy hunters started to mercilessly kill them, the result is 97% decline in the population of elephants in just a century between 1900-2000, thy made up such manipulated illegal lies to steal their organs and tusks and sell them and make fortune for themselves. RoseIsbella rightly pointed out that recently (2018) the last male white Rhino died, another specie that has become just extinct for human greed, as in history we have killed their kind for horns (there is a famous pic of Teddy Roosevalt standing on top of a poor defenseless Rhino which he just shot dead, I used to admire him once, but after learning his hunting passion I despise him and he is very responsible for popularizing the stupidity in the US and trophy hunters would start travelling to Africa to kill all those innocent animals). This hideous claim (kill tehm to protect them) does not say anything about the total extermination of dodo birds which were very common once, it does not explain why so many species which were very common once, min ding their own businesses, never bothering us have now become endangered. If we should control any population, it is our own ever growing population of 8 billion, no other animal population other than cattle have a population over a billion, and even cattle have it at 1.5 billion, ours is nearly 8 times higher. Vast majority of once common species like gorillas, lions, tigers, cheetahs, elephants, rhinos, etc have become endangered today because idiots believed in the bogus baseless claim that hunting is done to protect them from themselves. Its like saying every human with Hepatitis, AIDS, Small Pox, etc should have been killed to protect other humans from getting those contagious diseases, but no that would be considered a crime, instead we found medication for them to eradicate one of the deadliest epidemic in history small pox, to cure hepatitis, and to manage hiv from progressing to aids. We speak of abolishing death penalty even for mass murderers and serial killer humans and advocate for life term jail. So why coulndt they find alternative methods to protect the animals from aggressive members of their own (and no animal other than humans have ever been so dangerous to their own kind, history, scientific research and all supports my claim, a elephant has never been heard of killing 5 other elephants, while a human mass murderer terrorist doesnt hesitate to shoot down 50 people, and we still protect them saying they have a right to live and change, no capital punishment). The reason is this was a bogus cover up to protect hunters and poachers from killing innocent animals who never harmed them, sell their organs in ivory trade, make wealth, give a share of profits to keep activists quite and advocates to speak of all the good jobs the hunters and poachers are doing conserving the animals, while in reality these animals have slowly either become extinct or endangered. The fact that trophy hunting has been helpful in anyway is BS! The only population that needs to be controlled in reality is that of the ever growing human population, and maybe we should deal with sick/aggressive members of our own human kind first!!!

      • So much to address.
        1. - I appreciate the passion you have towards this and the research you appear to have done.
2.- Your dismissing of the need to protect the animals is not incorrect, assuming we did indeed leave them alone they wouldn't need protection, however this thought is flawed because we won't, it just won't happen. Changing the laws won't fix this poaching is already illegal and it still happens, so because of this a certain degree of protection is necessary. Also to this other than poachers, people encroach on the animals territory for farm land, or other reasons, creating an income source from the animals that benefits the community gives them a reason to leave their territory alone.
3.- Teddy Roosevelt as you mentioned was an interesting character, he bagged 3,000 animals in africa but he also established the national parks in america to protect our wildlife so... good and bad, judge him for both actions not just one.
4.- As far as our population coming under control, there's evidence that that's already happening, every first world country except the USA has a negative birth rate. And as other countries develop their birthrate will likely decrease too. Some studies already claim that the human population will never reach 12 billion. but only time will tell for sure.
These are just my oppinions anyways

        • Interesting points, i appreciate you for taking your time to fully go through what I said, and I agree with your 1,3,4. In 4, yes China and India alone makes almost 50% of the world populationj and their population continues to grow, but in Europe and the americas it is declining. But no 2, yes its too late now, whats done is done and the animals have already become endangered or extinct and this is all due to human interference. If only this was a highly punishable offence and people raised concerned of animal cruelty in the early years of the 20th century. Not only they hunted them, made profits by selling their body parts (like elephant tusks), but they drove them away from their own homes to establish their territories there. This has lead to loss of life of so many innocent animals. But it is a good thing people today are speaking up against animal cruelty and are finally trying to protect animals. Regardless the kill to protect theory is illogical, and has proven bogus, but the damage done is irreversible as I gave the article on how the elephant population has reduced by 97% in the last century while it was justified with that lie, but the real purpose was to sell their tusks all along (and if such logic had validity, during disease epidemics like the highly contagious small pox and Spanish flu, we would have killed infected people gunning them down before they infected others, but that would have been considered a savage and immoral act, same case to animals). Whats done cannot be undone, but now in the 21st century when we realize the cruelty and the filthy business associated with trophy hunting we must be more vigilant, we must enforce extremely harsh punishment on hunters and poachers, we must discourage tourists from traveling to Africa to kill innocent animals teaching them moral values, we must ban all ivory trade markets, those who are caught buying animal body parts should be jailed as the market is mostly demand driven. Changing law never does anything, strictly enforcing them does. How would people feel when they have their elders and children gun downed by mass murderers, yet they dont care if its innocent animals like bears, deer, zebras, rhinos, hippos, etc who never harm people unless for self defense and all are living beings with their own family (or group). Strong vigilance and harsh punishments can finally bring this despicable act to an end. We may never be able to bring back the lives of the millions of innocent animals that died in the hands of hunters and poachers, but it is time to stop this despicable act for good and to stop further loss of innocent animal lives due to human cause and greed. Thank you for your well thought reply...
