I mean yea its pretty fucked up they can't leave. The fact they are men legally is at least in my country wich is the u.s is because you need am insanley expensive surgery to be able to change that document status. I dont come from money that surgery is currently impossible for me. So while I can still be drafted odds are low of it because well obvious medical reasons after this many years of hrt the very idea of calling me a man is somewhat of a joke. Hormones do alot to the body and any soldier reliant on me in a battle would likley be left to die simply put cause I physically can't keep up with the men to put it lightly.
So yea I can understand them wanting to leave. See humans have this thing called fight or flight some people both men and women fight while others flee both men and women. Not to mention Russia has a bit of a reputation for being extra cruel towards those of the lgbt communities of their own people. So imagine what they would do to one they capture that was shooting at them. It's not a pretty thought. Some are willing to take those risks others are not.
Also I highly doubt anyone is afraid a gun will break their wrists I own some heavy kicking guns and even a child could shoot them. Perhaps not easily or well but they could do it without harming themselves.
