I think its because so many men watch lesbian porn, they think womanXwoman is hot but still want the women to be interested in them, making them more open to bi women and therefore making it more acceptable for women to experiment.
Also, most of the media is controlled by men, who view women as superior in appearence (more attractive than men), a lot of women realize this, and the fact that women are seen as more attractive makes more people open to the idea of bi women, thinking they're bi bc of their realization about the attractiveness of other women.
I think that social influences aside, naturally - women and men are very very similar though.
