  • I'm glad he's calmed down quite a bit. I don't know if he's going to have a normal future but that's not your fault and sometimes, as I'm sure you know, people are afflicted with disorders that can't be taken away.

I'm glad your daughters don't have similar issues and show you that the unfortunate ways your son is isn't a reflection of your parenting.

Are you still in contact with him?

    • Yes, I talk to him regularly. He visited me recently too. I wish I understood him better, I kinda get where he is coming from but I don't get why he is so extreme. He seems content for the most part but sometimes he tells me he wants to kill himself or wishes he'd just die. That's hard to hear. I don't know where that intense pain comes from and I don't know how to help him in that way.

I don't know that he will ever have a normal future since he rejects basically all the ideas of society. I mean, if he's happy as a traveller then that's ok, he is very smart though and could do better he just rejects the idea of having a job so hard. He constantly makes things harder for himself just to spite the 'system'. I get it, I do that myself sometimes when it's worth it but he doesn't seem to have that gauge that tells him when to quit.

    • Some people just Walk to the beat of a really weird drum.

That story made me kind of think of my great uncle on my dad's side

He pretty much mooched off of my great grandmother who suffered from dementia for decades, has his money and a lot of her money and house.

But he would get a kick out of looking like a hobo and bumming money off of people, or getting a free meal at a homeless shelter
