Is it normal to wonder if deaf and blind people can think?

If someone is born deaf and blind... How do they think? They've never had the input of sight into their brain to imagine anything.. And never heard sound to be told anything!!
So imagine if your in a dark silent void not knowing anything how would you think to yourself?

Is It Normal?

  • Never heard of Helen Keller?

  • So, just because you can not fathom it, that means that they have no thoughts? That is a very narrow-minded view you have.

  • They can play pinball better than anyone else!

  • Of course they can think, but it's probably completely different from how other people think.

    • How though? Because they'd have no knowledge of language

  • It's true. They wouldn't be able to do anything. How could they think, when they've never even heard of what thinking is? It must suck to be in that void the whole time, but you'd probably just learn to zone out

  • It was a question!! I was hoping for some insight!

  • I'm sure its a different life experience but they do have thoughts.

  • Normal to wonder this, but thought can take on more abstract forms than just verbal and visual. Try thinking in terms of the textures of objects, or the smell of foods you like.

    • I understand that..!! It's just that we know what textures are and the name of smells and what they smell like....
But imagine this,.. Some poor soul that was born like that doesn't even know what their hands are or have any comprehension of what the things that they can feel moving do!
But.. If you looked at consciousness like a language then their conscience would work in a totally different way I suppose!

      • Look I don't like Ellenna but she IS right.

Just because a person is deaf and blind does not mean that they don't think. I have no idea what they might think because I am not in their shoes, but they are capable of cognitive thinking, and the OP is obviously very narrow minded (like Shackleford said before) to think otherwise.

I suggest that you too look up Helen Keller who was deaf dumb and blind and was capable of leading a relatively normal life. She was a political activist, and author as well as a lecturer. She was born in 1880 and died in 1968 and was an amazing woman despite her disabilities.

        • The op didn't say deaf and blind people can't think, he just asked how they can think if they've never heard words or seen anything.
And ur acting like he's stupid just because he doesn't know about Helen Keller.
