Some women seem to do this just to get a rise out of the guy. Generally it is because the woman wants attention from the guy.
My solution is generally to leave when the argument turns into screaming. Try to do it rather quietly. Neither of you are going to get anywhere when you are yelling, and take it from a former victim, it does not help the kids at all either.
Go out, take a WALK (don't drive) and clear your head.
