Is it normal to want to burst out laughing when someone talks to you about religion?

When someone knocks on the door or approaches me in the street to try to talk to me about Jesus or Jehovah's Witnesses or Mormonism, I get the sudden urge to just outright laugh in their face. It can be extremely difficult to contain it and sometimes a small smile does get through. Yes I do think religion is all a bit silly and that they're a little childish for believing in it, but I still feel kinda mean about reacting like that afterwards.

I use to have a sign on my door saying no soliciting. Under it was an image of a guy getting kicked in the ass.
That was actually when I was much younger and had my first place.

Now I either won't answer the door or when I do will simply tell them I am not interested in religious talk. If they don't respect that and try to pressure me I will become insulting towards them, but that's only happened once or twice.

It's great some have found their meaning, something to fill a void, a community and happiness through religion. I don't need religion to have that though. I have many friends who are religious and we rarely if ever bring up religion in conversation.

I wouldn't laugh in their face. I would politely inform them that I'm not interested in learning about their faith.

We have a couple of Jehovah's Witnesses visit our town every Saturday morning, rain or shine, summer or winter. They have some literature on a small leaflet rack/display thingy where they stand. They never bother or harangue anyone & are always polite. If you show an interest they will be glad to talk to you.

You have to admire them for their diligence & dedication to their cause.

If I know they're coming, I answer the door naked with 'twisted sister' music blaring in the background. I invite them in, tell them my god is sex, drugs, and rock n roll. They leave so fast they almost leave skid marks.

That's MORONI, not MORON but you're pretty accurate otherwise. Smith purportedly translated the book of Mormon from gold plates he found buried in a box, using special 'crystal spectacles' that were in the box. No one has seen the plates or the spectacles. He dictated the book from behind a curtain to scribes. Moroni left the plates and the glasses buried in a hill in central NY for Joe to translate.

Aside from the wierdness of the tale, Mormons in general are damned good people who will go out of their way to help you. Their hospitals are the best, and Mormon women are usually incredibly hot.

Yes it is normal. But it all down to peoples beliefs. But it also depends on how you laugh. If your laughing hysterically at the religious group and make fun of them. You may rather be a rude person: as annoying they are, they're people that take time away to go door-by-door hoping that you might be interested.

If it is just smiling and a small laugh then it is nothing wrong. People joke about that one being who created the world. Or about Jesus. Your not alone.

Yeah bc there's no reason to laugh at someone who believes a imaginary sky daddy is out there that created everything

Techncally they're trespassing as they have to open a gate, drive 300 feet down the driveway, pas 4 NO TRESPASSING signs, and ignore the snarling 120 pound German Shepard. But I'm not unkind although I could have them arrested. I just enjoy the comedy.

I'm Roman Catholic, but when I was in my early twenties I used to love to tell Jehovah's Witnesses who came to the door that I was a witch. They would usually leave pretty quickly.

Well, then there's still hope for your friend by virtue of your weirdness. Honestly, I'm just glad I could managed to scare them away.

  • You can asked to be placed on their “do not visit list”. Unlike telemarketers/robocalls, they usually comply and won’t come to your house anymore.

Not really mean just kinda dumb and childish yourself, I mean what are you 15 and just realized that gods do not exist as physical beings and so you think you’re being edgy? And you are probably the type who is obsessed with fictional tv series / video games in the same way they are into religion.

No I'm not 15, I've been an athiest for a long time now, and I'm not trying to be edgy, or to be anything. I can't help but find those people so ridiculous that I can't help but laugh. And yes, I am into tv and video games. But unlike with people who are into religion, I don't believe any of them are actually real because that would be stupid.

They are real though. They exist in reality. Fiction is part of reality.

For Jehovah's Witnesses bring up the fact that they believe the blood transfusions and organ transplants are cannibalism and therefor a mortal sin. So if you are in a car accident and an ER doctor gives you a transfusion both of you are going to hell. You for cannibalism and them for damning you to hell. I did this and they never came to the house again.

For Mormons remind them that the book of Mormon was dictated to John Smith by an angel named Moron. That's right Moron as in stupid. When they start bringing up different languages (They like to use Latin) remind them the John Smith claimed to know several languages but it was later proven, by his own ignorance, that he did not.

Seriously, if you want them to leave you alone call the local church, be it Jehovah's Witnesses or the Mormons. Tell them that you do not authorize any missionaries to visit your home or otherwise contact you. After that, if they come to your home they are harassing you.
