Is it normal to want to be a different nationality (like japanese)

I just absolutely love Japanese culture! Personally, I don't like my own culture but, I find everything Japanese so amazing. I wish I were Japanese but I was born American and sadly, I can't change that. Is it normal to feel this way?

I remember kids like that in like high school... thought if they ate enough ramen and watched enough anime they could actually become japanese. It was super annoying.

Idk if its normal, but I do too wish I had a different accent, lived in a different place, and was born a different gender. I don't feel like I can be myself without those things.

So, basically you're one of those annoying-ass weeaboos. When you talk do you add in the 1 or 2 Japanese words you know because you think it makes you sound cool and exotic?

Ive never gotten that urge. I like my culture. Japanese culture is badass too though. I like their style of architecture and food.

You can't be something you aren't.

But you can certainly adopt the traditions/language/culture of the nationality you wish you were and you can also value another natiobality over your own but you'restill your original nationality no matter what.
    Ill give you my example.
    I'm Canadian but I wish I were
French but I look at myself and realize
Yup. Im still Canadian and nothing can change that.

i felt the same once but got over it eventually because i knew it would never be possible haha. I went over there and that satisfied me. I make japanese food, watch japanology, anime and stuff, and research Japanese history. Also there are crappy things about Japanese culture too, just like any...
But I'm also interested in other cultures and generally just love arts and culture

You can't become Japanese unless you were born to Japanese parents. You can become a citizen of Japan, but that is about the extent of that.

I can understand it but honestly think living in Japan full time would suck. People work himself to death, they have the highest suicide rate of all developed nations (which says something about the overall condition) and they have giant hornets there! Not exactly a place I want to spend the rest of my life in

  • If you're upset that you're American and not Japanese, you can try to become a Japanese citizen. You could really claim Japanese culture then!
