The quality of a piece of media doesn't decrease over time, at least not when you wait until the hype is dead. And if you're worried that the hype might affect your opinion on it, then you worry too much.
I call it the "In-N-Out Effect". When In-N-Out burgers finally came to my state, all my California friends kept talking about how amazing it is and how it's totally worth waiting 45 minutes in the drive thru. When I finally got my food it was good but not great by any means. It was kind of a letdown. And yeah, I'm a compulsive worrier, so that probably plays a role
