I used to avoid public bathrooms, particularly at school. Actually I don't think I ever used the school/college toilets either. I know it's not healthy, but your bladder kind of get's used to it after you've been doing it for so many years.
There's different reasons people don't like using the toilets. I always used to tell people it was because the toilets were disgusting, but in fact the real reason was because I was self conscious of the peeing sound. Silly, I know. But there you go.
If you're really that concerned, talk to her about it. You never know, but maybe there is more to it than you think.
