Is it normal to think what's the meanng of life?

OK, I know this is a cliché-kinda question - for which I apologise - but I'd really like to know what you think the meaning of life is. Also, is it normal to wonder if it has any meaning at all, because I'd really like my existence to matter.

Is It Normal?

  • I feel like(and I don't mean to be depressing) life has no meaning. To me, it's simply a role-playing game, where anything is possible as long as physics don't interfere. Like seriously, life can be lived in any way possible, and to each human, life is something different. There is no meaning, it's just what you decide to do with it. So, I guess it can have personal meaning, just not a 100% absolute truth to it. So, go out there and live however the hack you want! :D

  • In my opinion this is the meaning of life:
    1) Survive in good health.
    2) Reproduce; but not to the extent of overpopulation and the detrimental effects thereof.
    3) Learn about this Earth / Universe in whichever field(s) of study best suits you.
    4) Work smart and efficiently, but a little hard work now and again is probably a good thing too.
    5) Be happy, keep a good sense of humour and enjoy the pursuits of life.
    6) Try to get along with others. If you can't get along, graciously walk away or try to negotiate a mutually agreeable separation (friendship, family, love and property, etc.).
    7) Be charitable, but not to the point of dependency
(A hand up is better than a hand-out).
    8) Do not impose your beliefs on others. Healthy discussion / debate is allowable.

    To be cont'd...

    • 9) Live within your means. Try to live a moderate life. Do not overindulge.
      10) Be honest with yourself and others. Be polite and courteous with others.
      11) Conserve energy and resources. Limit your use of plastics.
      12) Be respectful of the natural environment. Do your part to prevent / control the spread of exotic and invasive flora and fauna. Encourage natural biodiversity.
      13) Do not submit to corruption and criminal intent.
      14) Use violence only in cases of self-defense, last resort or pre-emptive measures.
      15) Make a plan. (See above. Any applicable points in this).
      16) I freely admit that I have not fullfilled all of the above (to the letter), but that I try to do my best.

I would welcome any suggestions for amendments or additions to this. The one proviso though is that it must be Universally acceptable, and that it should be in the common good.

      • I would add:

        17) Do not engage in anything which would hamper the livelihood of any species on this planet.

Aside from that, I think you've got pretty much everything. And it's a damnably fine list. All credit to you.

        • A good suggestion with good intent, however, it would also include ourselves, the specie Homo sapiens. This would mean that all people around the world would be able to move unrestricted around the world. I feel that, for this reason, many people would take exception to this.
It would also contradict #12, exotic and invasive species.
It would also contradict #13, as criminals could claim that we are hampering crime through law and law enforcement.

          • Only if by "livelihood" you include as a necessity the freedom to move unrestricted around the world. It seems so at odds with your other points and also isn't part of what I personally consider a livelihood that I didn't choose to include it. I think one can live a perfectly fruitful life without visiting, say, Kyrgyzstan.

          • We're actually Homo sapiens sapiens, haha.

  • Yeah, I think about it all the time. Life is a journey leading to death. Life consists of a shitload of obstacles, until death when its supposed to be like this 'graduation' into a new realm.

Thats kinda how I see it. I believe in heaven, so I think that heaven probably holds more meaning. However we live our life will probably tell of however much fortune we get in heaven. We're all living for heaven. Eh... nevermind. Thats actually just ... I don't know.
A part of me thinks that.

  • The meaning of life is subjective.
Your existence matters only if you think it does.

  • Plain and simple and sadly, the meaning of life is to die.
