Is it normal to think that poisoning a skunk is cowardly?

I've got a skunk prowling around my house at night, stinking up the place and riling up my dog. I called the city and they said I can't kill it cause they're protected. So I looked up how to poison it and tge article says that it's cowardly which I think is stupid.

Is It Normal?

      That's a good question. The stupid city says that I have to call a pro pest co. and that they have to relocate it humanely. Go figure.
