In response to Tommy: YOU have YOUR right to practice any religion that you wish in America, so long as it does not impede on tangible life, liberty, or happiness. The keyword there is "tangible"--harm must be physical to hold up in an American court of law.
So, gay people having sex and wanting to get married offends you as a Catholic. The thing is, is that the harm is in your head. The injury is limited to the ego. You cannot touch the harm gay people do collectively--there are certainly vile gays, though, just as there are dangerous heterosexuals. So it would be common sense for me to support gay unions, even IF they made me uncomfortable. But, what the fuck do I care? As long as consent goes both ways I say GO FOR IT. I can't believe the world is still having this conversation in this day and age. It honestly upsets me. Like, can we drop it? Can we talk about poverty, sickness, state-sponsored terrorism, or the 2152 nuclear warheads currently in our national arsenal? Nevertheless, despite my annoyance with the triviality of the topic, I will continue championing gay rights because they deserve to get married if they wish it so.
