Why not just call it something other than "marriage"? But aparently thats not good enough. I don't think it's about civil rights anymore, because gays won't do that. It's just a case of wanting to feel special and throw a big party!
I believe all religions are bigger and more important than a few people who want to put a ring on their finger.
Because civil unions don't have ALL the same rights as marriage in America. If they had all the same rights I would not care what you call it. So you think they don't deserve the same rights because of the way they were born?
Nope, i think they deserve the right to a binding institution. Just not the institution that was founded under a god that hates them and by a religion thats laws are against them. You wouldn't go to a nazi rally if you were jewish would you.
I just find the whole thing so petty. I don't follow the bible, but i sure as shit don't think it should be shit on just so a few people can wear a ring. It's such a weak argument really.
In response to Tommy: YOU have YOUR right to practice any religion that you wish in America, so long as it does not impede on tangible life, liberty, or happiness. The keyword there is "tangible"--harm must be physical to hold up in an American court of law.
So, gay people having sex and wanting to get married offends you as a Catholic. The thing is, is that the harm is in your head. The injury is limited to the ego. You cannot touch the harm gay people do collectively--there are certainly vile gays, though, just as there are dangerous heterosexuals. So it would be common sense for me to support gay unions, even IF they made me uncomfortable. But, what the fuck do I care? As long as consent goes both ways I say GO FOR IT. I can't believe the world is still having this conversation in this day and age. It honestly upsets me. Like, can we drop it? Can we talk about poverty, sickness, state-sponsored terrorism, or the 2152 nuclear warheads currently in our national arsenal? Nevertheless, despite my annoyance with the triviality of the topic, I will continue championing gay rights because they deserve to get married if they wish it so.
IIN to think that parents raising their children religiously should...

"If that makes catholics sad I don't really care"
Thats my point, you don't care. But you care about keeping some gays from being sad? It's odd to me that people think this way.

So we are debating over a fucking name? I don't care about the name. I care about equal rights for all.
