It probably has more to do with the fact that you are a natural-born failure.
Seriously, you can alter your own mind. You have the power to shape it into what you need it to be. Confidence is emotional self-reliance. Stop relying on others, and confidence will come out of necessity.
^this is pretty much the gist of what I was going to say, that being said do they "bulldoze" you? I.E. never take you seriously? That could be a large contributing factor.
