Is it normal to think that bullied nerdy people won't have a bright future?

Parents, teachers and movies have been trying to convince me of one thing: being a nerd will eventually pay off and the typical jock/plastic bullies won't do anything significant after high school.

However, life has taught me that this couldn't be farther from the truth. The sad reality is that nerds usually end up being subordinates. The ones that do go ahead in life are the popular people, and sadly, competitive and aggressive people are usually popular. Having the right friends is the only thing that matters nowadays.

I guess I am just sad to know that that shy guy that sat on the corner reading all day will never be successful.

So, what do you think about this?

I think regardless of it they were bullied or popular in high school whether you are successful or not depends on how hard you work for something.

I can tell you now that the bullies of my high school were typically already pregnant and had no agenda for themselves after high school. I do not see a bright future for any of these kids, and these were the popular kids in school.

It really depends on your ambition and drive. If you were a bullied kid and high school and you let being bullied knock you down and destroy your confidence then you have a less likely chance of success than the bullied kid who decided to use his trials to motivate him. Success is the best revenge. The kid who understands that and strives to makes something of his life to prove those bullies wrong seems to have a much brighter future with the kids who don't.

In the end, it all depends on what you do with yourself and how bad you want something.

I agree because it's just a myth. Bad experiences can make people stronger but bullying could profoundly traumatize victims into adulthood shattering their confidence. A person could be bullied but actually not be considered nerdy and nerdy people can be popular and aggressive. No offense but I'm a bit irritated by people who keep assuming this about "nerds" and completely forget those who are bullied for the way they look, talk, or their beliefs.

Nerds get engineering degrees, work for aerospace companies, and develop precision weapon systems to kill bullies from Islamic countries.

No.. I am sure lots of nerds were bullied. It does not mean they are going to become an evil scientist and destroy the planet, or be too crippled to function. Lots of people were bullied as children. It does not mean that they were destroyed for the rest of there life.

You also might have noticed simply being a jock does not mean you bully people. We had jocks and nerds school. The jocks did seem to hang with other jocks, and nerds with other nerds but they were never as pretentious or rude as on tv. Now these groups were not usually friends but they never seemed to pick on each other.

Nerds do get bullied though. Its not usually a group of jocks doing it though. Its other people who are of average intelligence and are the kids who skip school, doing drugs, and getting a kick out of bullying other students. That or the kids with a lot of money that want to pretend they are "Gangsta". Since they saw it on tv.

People who are not extremely intelligent make it in athletic fields and a famous football player can break his leg, get kicked off the team, and lose all his fame and money. If he had a scholarship that payed because he was in football he will get kicked out of school. Nerds end up doing stuff like making computers and company's like the guy that made apple. So you really need a reality check.

I was the nerdy kid who was bullied in middle/high school. Now I have a hot wife who I have been with for almost 10 years and absolutely love, a great job, a son due any day now... man, I could go on!

If you feel so bad for bullied nerds, why don't you stop judging from a distance and go have a conversation with them like a human being? You seem like you have the right intentions but, shit, do something about it.

Broskie, there are so many possibilities after high school with an infinite amount of outcomes from every single thing you do in life. Its honestly retarded thinking about it. Just do your thing.

It's normal to think that way, especially if you've been subject to bullying yourself. People can and do rise above their circumstances.

I guess with that attitude, you "will never be successful".
Seeing as how you are so much smarter than "Parents, teachers and movies", I don't understand why you feel this way, but obviously you've already given up, so why even post the question?
