Is it normal to think gay people are obsessed with sex?

One of the first stereotypes I thought about gay people was that they were obsessed with sex. I remember telling a friend that and he said it was dumb, so I tried to erase it from my mind.

Then, years later, I heard about Grindr. A smartphone app that lets you hook up with all the gay people in your immediate vicinity. Then more recently, Blued, which is the Chinese version. Both got millions of downloads.

I know straight people hook up for anonymous sex pretty often, too. A straight version of that app was attempted before but it didn't do as well (for various reasons, I assume). It's just that when I'm supposed to be thinking of homosexuals as being just like everyone else, it's off-putting when I see this kind of stuff.

Men are obsessed with sex. So when you have two gay men, they want to fuck no matter what. It's not a gay thing, it's a guy thing

I think it's this. The thing that keeps couples from living in the bedroom is usually the woman's lower appetite for sex. It's also the reason for the limited success of most hookup sites and apps- plenty of dudes looking for sex without commitment, not so many girls. Remove that from the picture and replace it with another male libido and... Boom.

    • Haha, there might be something to this. A lot of the weirder stuff does seem to be focused more on guys than girls. So much so, that you almost forget lesbians exist.

Exactly. Like studies show that gay men are the most likely to have successful open relationships and lesbians have the highest success rate of long-term monogynous relationships. Proving once again, it's a guy thing. If girls had a sex drive like men it would be across the board. If you want to get really boring and scientific, it was a evolutionary measure for women not to get pregnant too often since childbirth was often deadly prior to modern times.

well, i think men in general are just horny bastards. it's not that they're gay but that they're male. you don't hear about so much promiscuity among lesbians.

I've never discussed sex with my gay acquaintances, so I wouldn't have any firsthand knowledge about it. But since gays are people, just like straight people, I'd assume they are pretty much the same in the sex department, too..

I've noticed this too, but for many reasons, I didn't want to ponder too deeply about it. I wonder what it is that is causing this.

That was one of the main stereotypes bigots used to marginalize gay people, It's still used till today to justify why gay people don't have rights in homophobic countries. I'm gay and religious, I'm not obsessed with sex. I'm still a virgin anyways.

Oh and also, straight people can do everything homophobes accuse gays of doing and even worse. Promiscuity is riskier and could be much more detrimental with straight couples because of the chance of pregnancy factor.

In conclusion, no, not all gay people are obsessed with sex, same as straight people.

I'm bisexual. Been this way since I was little. And I 100% think guys are way more promiscuous than women. They know what they want and aren't afraid to reach for it. With girls, it's more wishy washy, game playing bs, unless they're tipsy. Girls and inhibition go hand in freakin hand. I say again, the need for stable monogamy is cemented into their chromosomes. I wouldn't say gay guys are OBSESSED with sex though. No more than any other guy. It's just they don't have all the female bullshit to put up with so it's easier, so they get more of it if they want. Like... It's waaaay harder to find a girl that's dtf without u buying dinner, showing them where u live, giving them ur phone # and everything short of making me wear an anklet monitor.

I don't think that's particularly accurate. Kind of normal though. I figure if someone has any kind of identity related to sex, people will assume that means sex is a really big part of their life.

I suppose it's not even 100% wrong, to the extend that if someone makes a point of mentioning their sexual preference that's at least some indication it's important to them.

    • You stated exactly the train of thought that initially led me to that conclusion. I try to avoid judging people, though. Even if it was 100% true, I would try not to treat them any differently.

It's just that I'm getting conflicting messages. Political correctness demands that I think they're just like everyone else. Yet any time the subject of discussion is homosexuals, but not about gay rights, they couldn't seem more different than everyone else.

Correct spelling seems to be dangerous as well, judging by how you're avoiding it all the time.
