Is it normal to think feminism is unequal

From my understanding despite popular belief Feminism is where a person/persons presumably woman/women wishes for women to have superior rights over men, not equal rights.

If a person truly desires equal rights for all people then they should be classified as an Egalitarian(or Equalist). Egalitarianism shows no boundaries to race or sex.

If anyone has any opposing or supporting thoughts to this please comment.

  • oh. wow. this an area where me and my friends usually argue about. I think there are or shold be two groups of femisim of difinition becasue there are feminsit radicals out there who are after supirority and dominatating men and want women ont he top of the world but there are also others like me who simply just want equal rights for women and i know some of oyu are saying we already have equal rights truth is it is only limited to certainly place there are still so many women who are suffering under male opperission. and to me feminism has abosultely nothing to do with men it's about empowering women to be indepenant, confident and driven.

    • I agree 100%. Most people have no idea what feminism is actually about.

It has nothing to do with being dominant over men. It's entirely about being strong and not enslaving yourself to the standard definition of "beauty". It's about being able to walk down the street without being whistled and yelled at. It's about being able to travel alone at night without fear of being raped. It's about having equal opportunities to succeed in life.

Before you stereotype, you should really look into things more. There have been extremists who have said "all men are rapists" but personally, I think that statement is absurd. Surely you know that you can't believe everything the mass media is feeding you, so why are you generalizing an entire group of people?

      • Feminism doesn't mean belief in equality, you're mistaking feminism for egalitarainism.

  • Feminism doesn't mean belief in equality, people who say otherwise are ignorant of these definitions or are misleading to others! You can't confuse an advocacy movement with a belief in equality, feminism is an advocacy movement while egalitarianism is a classification of beliefs in equality. Egalitarainism is the belief in equality, feminism is an advocacy of women's rights. People who say shit like "if you're not a feminist then you're a sexist" don't understand the definitions of feminism and egalitarianism or their differences in etymologies.

  • There are so many different branches of Feminism that it's hard to generalize them into one core belief. Radical Feminism is that branch of feminism that wants to dominate men. There are also feminists, like Cyber Feminists, who want to get rid of gender altogether in order to achieve equality. And Liberal Feminists, like Betty Friedan, want women to be equal to men in the sense that they get paid the same salaries and have the same political representation.
