Is it normal to strongly dislike the friends-to-lovers trope?

I don't like it when 2 fictional characters have a platonic relationship and then it turns romantic. It's not cute. It makes me uncomfortable. In fiction, I prefer platonic relationships to be pretty much set in stone.

I could take or leave it. It's been overdone like every other idea.

I just feel like it's not creative enough. Whatever happened to getting a shallow crush on someone you barely know, asking them out on a date, and then having a casual romance turn into a serious relationship over time? I don't know why I barely ever see fictional characters doing that.

      • IKR? The way you wrote sounds more romantic to me. And I don't know if I'm alone on this, but I have never been "just friends" with someone and then developed romantic feelings for them.

I am not saying I have never developed romantic feelings for someone after being just friends with them, but usually, for me, the friendzone is permanent. :)

          • "Permanent friend zone," haha. That situation always happens with guys, from my perspective. I cannot seem to develop chemistry with them, if it isn't right away.

I'm sure every writer in the world just made note of it and will try to be more sensitive to your needs.

      lol what

I am not saying that every writer needs to write exactly what I like.

clarification: I think that friends-to-lovers is a great way to get a relationship IN REAL LIFE. I just don't think it's interesting enough for fiction.
