I actually love cats and own one. It only takes a reasonable amount of hygiene to avoid the parasite that should be second nature to a civilized person. You know wash your hands before eating, don't let animals eat from your food and keep them from children too young to know better.
However on the positive side of things the poster here has in a way acquired a second pet. Of course that pet is parasitic worm that is consuming her brain and will for the duration of her life.
