Is it normal to see your teacher as a mother figure?
So I would normally think this is really weird, but my mother died when I was a child, so Idk. Maybe I'm trying to fill a void or something. I don't think it's normal though.

It's normal. My wife is a teacher and her students actually call her mom all the time. These are high school students, but it's an apt description. She regularly has to act like their parent away from their parents and genuinely cares about them. I can't say if this is the case for you, but based on that I think it is normal.
9-12 students call your wife, their teacher, mom? NZ must be pretty liberal. I do think the mother figure is normal, but to call her mom seems disrespectful - she’s an authority figure, not their mom.
Parents are an authority figure, too, ideally.
My best teachers in high school were the ones who managed to be authoritative as well as approachable. That is, a mix of good teacher and good human a5g the same time. Pity there were only, like, two. Most we shitty teachers and lousy human beings :(
This is touching. i used to see one of my teachers like that too, she was so nice, kind and caring. Sadly she passed away now....
