  • It's very discriminating to not pay your employees. I would have that place shut down if I were president.

    • Internships are pretty common in America

      • I know but I don't think it's right.

I used to be in a program called DVR and which is made to help people get jobs but they expect people with disabilities to work for free for a while, which is discrimination.

Some of the employees never make it through the program and are therefore never paid.

I worked at goodwill too for a while and the employees were paid minimum wage and there were people working there for over 25 years on the same pay.

I find it very discriminating and taking advantage of people with health problems.

        • I very much agree with you, bugs, with regard to the situation you are talking about- seems like out and out exploitation.

However, there's quite a few kids in my country that graduate highschool and attend college with an air of superiority- getting some experience in the real world workforce, where you actually have to put in some effort, answer to people, learn how to defer, and get smacked with not having wages- well, it does WONDERS in terms of humility, and ultimately is invaluable in terms of character and learning the value of real work (now, I'm talking kids who don't need the income).

          • I've been seriously fucked by so many jobs schools and work programs that I have a strong bias against those things. I feel like the harder I try the more I get fucked so I never want to work under anyone but myself again. I would rather leave society.

            • Sorry to hear that, bugs. From reading your posts, you seem to be intelligent, well spoken and mature...can't say the same for some of the people I've come across- sometimes unpaid internships seem to be a necessary stepping stone in order to distance people from the participation trophy way of life, at least in my experience.

              • Thanks.
I've just had negative experiences that have made me feel negatively on certain topics.

I realize I may have a different situation from other people in those programs.
I would be miserable doing low level work such as fast food which is where society wants to place anybody with a disability, even if they have really high intelligence or other skills.

I have genius level intelligence but because of things I have trouble with people expect me to settle for a shitty life and ignore my gifts. I have seen several other people in similar situations such as people who can do complex physics but cannot even talk so society assumes they are stupid and places them in an institution where they waste their whole life when they should have worked for nasa.
