Is it normal to prefer tomboys and independant girls rather than girly girls?

Everywhere I go, I always see the same advertisements, couples and music with the same message. Men love girly girls and bubbly blondes. I feel kind of weird about this. Personally, I prefer tomboys, because I can relate to them and we can get along together more. Plus they usually don't seem to bitch as much, and when they do it's all in good fun. Many girls I knew were tomboys, and I had crushes on them, but I feel like it's weird to tell them why I liked them so much. I like girls that have a somewhat brash attitude rather than the giggly and shy one that is always portrayed in media. My friends sometimes tease me about it, saying that if I like tomboys so much, I might as well date a dude. It kind of makes me wonder. Is this normal?

    I'm a girl and I think overly girly-girls are just unbearable! They really do my head in, especially if they act dumb too, when it's really all put on for show! -.-

    Totally normal. Some chicks are way too girly, and guys actually like it sometimes when they act all dumb and helpless. Ugh. There's no shame in being a strong, independant woman. Go rotate my tires, bitch! Hehehe one of the many things us women should be able to do :D

    Every woman I've ever been interested in has been strong willed, independant and a woman I'd gladly say is a woman all her own.They haven't always been tomboys but most have.Tomboys tend to be who I'm interested in.
