Is it normal to prefer the use of 'man' instead of trying to be pc?

Mailman. Horseman. Garbage man. Man means mankind. It should be so simple yet some people want to say mailPERSON (etc). Man means person, person is harder to say and sounds funny. What's the big deal?

Is It Normal?

  • What about humankind? Mail Carrier? Garbage Collector? I don't see why this is an issue. I agree though, political correctness can go too far sometimes.

  • Political correctness is really, really fucking annoying. Especially where I live (Sweden)

Now more and more people are even using the gender-neutral word rather than saying he/she . I don't mind it if an ACTUAL transgender-person requested this label but to FORCE it upon others?

    Fuck thjis shit.

  • I solve all these problems by calling everyone a fuckface. "Has that fuckface dropped the mail off yet?" "That fuckface forgot a trashbag.." See the fuckface in the dress?" "They call that fuckface Mr. President." And my fav... "Look at the fuckface with the duck face."

    Politcally fucked.

I feel like I just ripped this out of a book of horrible jokes for bathroom time.

  • You are technically correct that -man means person. But I wonder, would you actually call a women who delivers your mail a mailman?

  • Political correctness should be abolished. It's nothing but a scam and excuse for inept weak people who are at the bottom of the food chain, to get half of what strong, capable people obtained with hard work and sheer superior survival instinct and abilities.

In modern society, every loser wants his share even if he/she didn't earn it. I think it's unjustified and stupid.
If you want something, try getting it yourself. Don't whine about it and ask for people's sympathy and compassion.

    • I couldn't agree more. This PC garbage is like those years when EVERYBODY got a trophy just for participating in a sport, no matter if they won or lost, in fact they didn't even keep score, so there were no winners or losers. Those kids probably grew up and started this PC crap.

  • What's the problem with the usage of gender-neutral terms? A vast majority of the 'man' words (Mankind, Mail man, etc) also apply to women, so why not use a neutral term?

  • I don't see a problem with making titles more gender-neutral.

Here's comedian Stewart Lee on political correctness: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bmsV1TuESrc

  • I say mailman or maillady depending on the gender of the mailer. I've had a female mailer for years and refer to her as the maillady.

  • Yeah I could see where you would get annoyed. Its not a huge deal to me. I say "I am a horrible salesman" and I'm a lady, there are a million better things to worry about other than political correctness.
