This is common with people who never seize the day. I know that's a cliche ans cringetastic phrase, but generally when you don't or are incapable of doing what you want to, or feeling how you want to, your mind compensates and fills those gaps by day dreaming.
I wholeheartedly agree with the second life sentence. Sometimes my own dreams are so surreal and fantastic that I would be content never wake up from dreaming. Alas, since that isn't possible, the only option left is to try and make your real life as exciting. When I've had seasons of pure happiness I don't remember my dreams ever being better
