I face the same issue. But I still go with boxers. They are more manly. As for the erections, well, a slight bulge is seen when you are wearing boxers, and most people find that sexy. So the boxers might actually help you score.
Hey nkwacky: the reason that I wanted to wear boxers is because they show a guy's dick outline. I saw so many guys in college in the '90s that blatantly showed their dicks through their clothes that I had to get in on it. So I started wearing boxers to school. When I'd walk from one class to the next, the motion of walking would give me a boner. I always wore sunglasses so no one could make eye contact with me. I loved it when people would stare at my crotch. You couldn't miss Junior pointing down to the right side of my shorts bouncing with each step.
