Is it normal to not like violence/violent shows?

I'm a guy so I'm supposed to enjoy violence, like shooting video games or watching movies where people die/gore. I enjoy adding gore into my art, but I don't like to see it on a screen. With art I know it's not real. On T.V. it just makes me uncomfortable and sad. I know none of it's real, but it makes me upset. I'm not sure what's wrong with me, I get really shaky when I see images of people dying and I have a panic attack. I wish I wasn't like this. Instead I'm just compassionate and I refuse to squish bugs or hurt anything. I know I'm a wimp, I just wish I wasn't. Any tips for getting over it and enjoying violence?

I'm female and I don't mind violence...and I love horror movies...if you don't like violence why would you pretend you do?

Stop worrying about how you're "supposed" to be, just be however you are

I've found that people either like it or loathe it, there seems to be no in between. Horror films seem to divide opinion in the same way as well.

I enjoy horror and creepy things. I can't watch the full movie unless I take breaks because I get overwhelmed. But watching people die or being ripped apart bothers me. I know none of it is real, but my brain seems to react as if it is.

  • I'm male and I HATE the violence/violent shows. I would much rather my kids see all the sex they can than ANY of the violent, blood and guts crap!

There is a lot of violence on TV and at the movies. Personally I believe this has contributed to violence such as serial killers and school shootings.

I have seen ads on TV for the latest movies and they are targeted at a juvenile audience. They are fright movies with a fair bit of violence in them.

Give me a good mystery or sci-fi movie or comedy any day.

Don't sweat it that you don't like violent movies.

I recommend you start playing: Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare 2. That'll help you out. The truth be told, I get sick of all the violence too, and just want to snuggle up with a nice soft inflatable :)
