Is it normal to mute online radio more than listen to it?

I work online and listen to online radio, mostly espn or other sports stations, while I work, and have a habit of muting the speakers when annoying noises, repetitive commercials, or anything voices or noises that bother me comes on. Seem to hit the mute button every few minutes, and listen to the station less no matter which station I have on.

Commercials with college football bands (that drumming goes right through my brain), piercing voices (Stephen A Smith, Sarah Spain, etc), the same song playing in the background, or news pieces with similar background noises all get silences pretty immediately. Announcers with coughing problems, too. Or, excessive, fake laughing. All get muted until it stops.

Is it normal for me to basically hit the mute button more than actually listening to what's on? I can time the commercials by now, so the second they start, boom..Muted. Even know how long they run so can unmute. Is this me being too used to the stations, or generally impatient?

Yeah, online or on a regular radio, any time a "male enhancement" commercial comes on I mute the damn thing. (And it's surprising how many of these commercials they air, ennit?!)

In fact, in the kitchen as I make a mad dash for the radio to shut it off, I drown out the dreaded commercial by going, "Man, wo' hoppen? You used to be energetic and the ladies loved you!" (Actual wording of one such commercial from long ago.) This makes my S/O laugh, as she knows very well that I'm hardly in need of such products.

I listen to a range of stations online, but can't wait until the college football championship game is done next Monday night. I'm a fan, but, the constant commercial, which is also on tv, with that annoying "Do you believe that we can win this fight, ton-night?" song has to stop..The end of the college football season will make that happen..Thank God.. I mute that one the second I hear it start.

Starting to think it's not only me doing this..

The fucking commercials are horrible, with people yelling at each other, screaming/hollering a song out, irritating noise to get our attention, and social/political agendas. It's almost impossible to find anything good to listen to anymore.

It really is..I also hate the dead-air commercials. Espn has one that goes on mute within nano-seconds of it coming on. Guy's voice, then long pause of dead air. I do it all the time. Does seem like anymore, the speakers are on mute more than on.

    • I listen to inflatables being deflated from gunfire. Lovely.
