Is it normal to message someone on facebook and tell her you admire her?

So about two and a half years ago, I went to a musical theatre camp for teens at a university. There was this amazing counselor, who was honestly the most beautiful and talented woman I've ever met. She was a musical theatre major at the college. I didn't really talk to her much, since I wasn't in her group of campers. However, one night she told me I had a very pretty singing voice. That gave me a lot of confidence. I haven't seen her since that summer but we're friends on Facebook and I check her page a lot. I just look at her pictures from shows she has been in. She really inspires me a lot and has given me an amazing amount of self-confidence. She even inspired me to change my physical appearance for the better and take better care of myself. Here's the dilemma though. Should I message her on Facebook letting her know what I think about her and how she inspires me? I don't know if she really even remembers me. I would love to tell her, but I don't want to seem weird or stalkerish. I am 7 years younger than her, so do you think she would enjoy hearing what a great role model she is and would it flatter her? Also, if I do message her, what should I say?

Is It Normal?

  • You should be fine as long as you don't go full on 'AND IIIIIIIII WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU' mode.

  • I would say anyone likes to hear that they're admired. And you met at least once so she's not a total stranger. Go ahead and talk to her, as long as you don't cross the stalker line it's okay.

  • I think that she would love to hear that!!

It's a wonderful acknowledgement of her skills as a teacher. Just make sure, you don't come across as romantic or stalkish - just keep it short. I'm 100% sure she'd appreciate it :o)

  • "but I don't want to seem weird or stalkerish."

    There's your answer.

Try adding her as a friend first before sending her letter.

And in all honesty... to me, constantly reading a stranger's FB page if you're not on their friend's list already, ... well that's already crossing the stalker line really.

    • I AM her friend on Facebook already. Read the story more carefully next time.
