Is it normal to make rules for yourself to break bad habits

I want to quit smoking so everytime I finish a cigarette I have to put it out in my hand. The only alcohol I can drink is Coors Lite which is a terrible beer and hard to get drunk from. For sweets I can only eat this really bad Mexican candy that is made from sugar and glue.

    Burning yourself is a terrible idea. If you want a punishment, then by all means use that system, (though reward systems have been found to be more effective) but have it be something that is unpleasant and deterrent but won't scar you for life.

      Some people enjoy having lit cigarettes put out on their body

    While it is normal, do you have any idea how much this sounds like self harm?? Defs dont make it a habit and i say only use rewards instead of puish ment, like you do with prey animals (e.g. rabbits)

    Habit = Cue > Routine > Reward

    You can't change the cue or reward of a habit, but you can change the routine. Focus on being aware of the cues, then try something else for that relief.
