  • I do the same thing! I just call mine silkies!! I'm 46 years old & I used to suck my thumb & rub my silky. Gave up the thumb sucking at 18 but never rubbing the silky! I have multiples off a king size blanket that belonged to my parents! I usually have one in my car, one in my pocket & 1-2 tucked in my purse! I freak out if I misplace one!! I thought I was the only one who did this!! Only 3 people know I do this! My husband ( he thinks it's kinda weird) my Mom & my Sister!! My silky has traveled all over the US with me & I never leave home with out it!!!!

    • wooooah I call them my silkies too !!! I started when I was a year old. My aunt bought me a gold silk pillowcase for my crib. I slept with it until I was 17. It was beige by then and had multiple holes that my mom always stitched up. Rubbing her silk nightgowns were my favorite though. I’m 24 now and I’ve always just had 1 favorite at a time. When I am in goodwill, secondhand shops, or regular clothing stores, I have to touch any silk I see. Every few years I find a silky that is better than the one I have so I’ll buy it and throw the old one in my silk drawer lol it is filled with pj pants, nightgowns, scarves, shirts, robes, slips. If it can be made out of silk, I have one in that drawer. It has to be the right kind though. There are a lot of “silks” that I cannot rub. I was so embarrassed that I did this until I was probably 20. Then I realized no one has ever had a bad reaction to it. They are always very intrigued. The funny thing is when I tell my boyfriends they always try to rub it and always do it wrong lol so I show them the right way and they say “oh wow. now I know why you like this!” haha my boyfriend now calls it my noonie, binky, or boobah.

Rubbing silk in between my thumb and whichever finger, is second nature to me. I can instantly find the best spot and fold to get that perfect slippery silky feeling without even thinking about it. It’s nuts.

I’m so glad to know there are others like me. This is truly wild.

    • Never was a thumb sucker, not even a pacifier. Give me a silky blanket and I am happily soothed and lulled to sleep by its comfort. If I am sick, I need my Silky, if I am sad I need my Silky, if I am mad my Silky calms me down. There is nothing wrong with being tactile and having something that that makes us feel better. I don't know of anyone in my family before me who liked the silky of a blanket but I do have a niece and a great niece who also have the touch. I actually named my dog Silky because after the traumatic loss of my last dog, I needed the comfort of another. Silky is soft and silky, her name suits her perfectly. She has not replaced my silky "Benny's" though. I always manage to find the perfect ones in the baby blanket departments of stores. Silky on!
