Woah, to see all of you on here with the same "disorder" (which I can't even be sure I'd call it one since its pretty great) is awesome! I've always called this habit "slicking". My favorite sensation is a sharp swishy feeling I get from nylon or a spandexy swimwear fabric. I can make the sound/sensation out of pretty much any fabric but those give me the most comfort. I too had a baby blanket with a silk ribbon trim that I rubbed like it was nobodies business. I never wore it down to the point of no return but I did not progress this habit and notice it much until 6 years ago. I'm 22 now and I HAVE to have one of those microbead pillows that flop around in my bed as I do it most before bed. During the day if my hands aren't busy I just use my shirt or even twirl my hair because I love the soft feeling of it. If I'm in a room sitting by sheer curtain I even find myself going to town on those. My ideal sound/sensation can get obnoxiously annoying and my boyfriend is always snapping at me about it but we still laugh about it also. He thinks its a nervous thing but its just always been a comforting action and I even do it without noticing sometimes. I have only met one other person in real life who enjoyed doing this also who would rub holes in his shirts. I think I'll always call it "slicking" until there's a much cooler technical term for it.
Either way, we are all super normal and people who don't "slick" really are missing out! Haha
IIN to love to rub fabrics between my fingers?
