Is it normal to love a character, yet dislike the person who portrays them?

Well, I got into a Tv series some time ago, and I really ended up liking the main character in it. Her character really spoke to me and connected, and I eve liked a few of the actress's other roles.

Fast forward a few years, and I decided to make a Twitter account. I see the actress's Twitter account and decided to follow her, might as well get to know the actress, right? Well, I started seeing her posts on Twitter, and it's downright cringeworthy. I obviously didn't expect her to be completely like her character, but seeing the real her is well, it's like something out of a mirror universe!

Her real postings seem to show an arrogant, elitist, and well, rather unintelligent person, and hardly anything related to her work! She even posted a vid recently where she harassed a person trying to do their job, tried to disrupt the guy, and acted like she was a victim! (Her political posts especially seem to be cringeworthy, and not just for differences in opinion!)

Well, it's like that episode of Family Guy, where Stewie travels to London to find out the wonderful "Mother Maggie" turns out to be a complete b**** in her real life.

Is it strange to like a character, yet dislike the person who portrays them?

Good job leaving out the details of who. Annoying as fuck.

I don't Jensen Ackles but I really like Dean Winchester, so I understand. It's hard when you really like the character but the face you keep seeing is you-know-who.

Sometimes it is opposite - you pretty much hate the character they play in a movie or show but like the person.

Well like for me - Delta Burke. In "Designing Women", she is this ditsy gold-digging ex-husband collecting self-loving twat.

Yet in real life, she has been married once, for 29 years and counting, to the same man. Yeah she is into her looks (former beauty pageant contestant) but she is not a bitch.
Gyod I talk like I know her or something.

  • I guess what I'm trying to say is, that I found the character to be a nice, intelligent, and (mostly) rational character, with some exception during times of stress. I actually kinda emphasized with the character.

The actress seems to be the total opposite of that.

      That's the point of acting.
