Is it normal to let your friend cut your hair?

I am a girl with long-ish hair and I've never been a fan of salons or spending much money on my hair. I keep it pretty plain and simple, all one length. I've cut it myself in the past, but it's kind of hard to do. I was telling my friend this one evening and he offered to cut it for me, so I let him and it turned out great. He's not a professional by any means, he just has a steady hand and is a perfectionist at everything he does. Since he did such a good job, I've asked him to do it ever since.

One of my other friends brought up that she liked my haircut, and so I brought up that my friend did it. She acted shocked that I would let him do it and that it wasn't messed up, and said it's risky and not a good idea to not get it professionally done.

I never really thought of it as out of the ordinary before. Is it normal to you?

Who cares what others think? As long as you like it that's all that matters.

I say it's ok. I used to cut my own hair military style, the way my dad taught me and I used to look like a thug XD

But for over 2 years my girlfriend does my hair. She introduced me to the greaser hairstyle that fitted me, made me look a lot better and she likes it.

I'm more than ok having her cut my hair. She is very gentle and even makes me feel relaxed. I also like to enjoy a drink while she is cutting my hair.

Best part - No wasting time and money going to a hairdresser.

  • If your friend did a good job and it turned out well, and you like it, isn't that all that matters? Who cares if he's not a "professional"?

  • If he’s good I don’t see why not. I’ve never been to a salon. My cousin does mine tho she’s licensed but I’ve never even wanted to try anyone else. I cut my boyfriend’s hair cause I don’t like how salons do it. So idk if I’d say it’s normal to me but I’m sure my normal isn’t normal either. If you find it better then who cares.

Well yes and no. In the navy it's common to pay someone to cut your hair as in not the barber on the ship but rather someone else that had better skills then the barber.

My hair only accepts buzz cuts so the barber really only needs to be a novice for results.
