Is it normal to ignore some1 singing in public bc u think it'll feed their ego?

I hate it when people randomly sing in public places. Whether I'm washing my hands next to someone, walking past them in the hall, etc., if they're singing and putting any effort into it at all, I instantly assume they think they're awesome, and are thinking "oh listen to me, can't I sing beautifully?" I don't like when people are too proud like that, so I ignore them, or sigh audibly to prevent them from thinking I think anything of the way they sing. I know, it's probably mean, but I can't stand it when people know/think they're good at something.

Is It Normal?

  • They're probably singing because they're happy. Maybe you should try it.

  • Yep, I'm the same way. I become even more frustrated with the idiots that support attention-seekers.

In general I just really dislike people who display no modesty. Modesty is incredible and show-offs are fucking annoying.

  • What's funny is, I know where the OP is coming from with this.

I knew this guy who was actually an okay singer. He'd do exactly that - start up singing, then look at you expectantly, like you were supposed to compliment him. He was the only one I ever knew to do that, though.

I don't think there's anything wrong with ignoring someone who is obviously fishing for compliments, but at the same time, I don't think most people who randomly sing are looking for compliments.

      • No, but I did consider being mean. I wasn't mean to him, mostly because he was a nice enough guy that I didn't feel like deserved to be ridiculed for something he was okay at.

If he'd been a jerk, I probably would have cackled in his face.

  • They don't care if you like it or not. They'll sing anyways. I'm not allowed to sing. Court order.

  • I didn't know people just walked around singing randomly, lol.
I'd ignore them if they were actually bad and pay attention if they're good.
Nothig wrong with giving someone some support and confidence, if they well deserve it!

  • yes! cant even give them a little meaningless compliment just to be nice without worrying to blow their heads up and encourage more singing.
i actually do sing publicly a lot lol trying not to sound hypocritical,i dont seek any type acknowledgement in that matter, just a way of making my day easier. but who knows, maybe thats what that person is trying to do also. still i think true effort in singing is somewhat sacred to most unless youre incredibly confident or want recognition otherwise itd be kept in. but thats just me.

theres still that difference between singing candidly and singing because you know someone is there though. ugh, silly bitches.

  • Sometimes Ill walk around singing with my friends because its fun. I dont sing too often alone, mostly because of judgemental assholes like you who make assumptions about everyone you meet without knowing a bloody thing about them. ;P

I feel like if someones walking around singing in public, they probably give no fucks. I run around, wear weird shit, play Calvinball on campus and occasionally do some light freerunning. Sometimes people think its attention seeking behavior. Im just trying to have fun and dont really care what anyone else has to say about it. Hell, why do I care about the opinion of anyone Im just walking past on the street?

  • I hum songs in public but I don't do it for attention. Singing makes me feel happy inside and helps keep my depression at bay.

  • Singing is praised in our society but I'm not sure why. It sure in hell won't help you very much in a survival situation :P At least dance strengthens your body. I don't praise or shun those good at singing, I just don't care.

  • I hate when people sing in public... It's like they want and need attention. I don't care if it's a rap/love/pop song. I really don't care if you can sing either.Nobody wants to hear your voice! Now please all you people who do this STFU!!!

  • I especially do this with children. I HATE when little kids start singing, with the false impression that they are "good". I tend to give them the finger or ignore them when they start singing, though sometimes their breeders get mad at me. As for adults, I will sometimes do the same. I never give change to a homeless "musician". If he was really that good a musician, he wouldn't be playing for spare change.

  • Yeah, singing has been shown to relieve stress. I sing in public to calm my nerves. Not necessarily for a show, but I really love singing.
