If u know her, try to talk about lesbian stuff first and see her reactions, if she accepts the talk then ask her "would u dare to do something like that.." etc.. If she doesnt want to talk about it then she would likely reject u.

Rather than thinking of it as "asking her on a date" just ask her if she'd like to see a particular movie (maybe one with a Lesbian theme?) with you and eat together before or after the movie.

Finding out whether or not she's Lesbian is another matter, especially if you're not out yourself.

I dunno, I imagine that would be quite difficult. I'm completely straight, and it's hard enough just trying to make friends with other women sometimes. I feel for you.

I also just want to say that I believe sexual preference is not a choice, but something we're born with. After all the stupid choices I've made with guys in my life it would make perfect sense if I gave up on them all together, and became gay, but I'm still straight. I know it's not necessarily related to your post, but I just wanted to put that out there.
