Is it normal to have sex on a first date? is it always a bad idea?

We met in class and i have known him for about a month.
We had been flirting and texting ever since the first time we met.
We study together and he took me out to lunch and has told me he really likes me.
Well 2 days ago, we finished an Exam for the class early and he told me he would wait for me outside the class if he finished first. Well, he did and i suggested we go see a movie because he had asked a lot of times but i never had time.

We ended up going, and at the movies, we cuddled and one thing led to another.
His fingers were in me throughout, i stroked him and at some point licked his head to taste his precum. So we didn't have SEX sex but i guess we all view sex in different ways.

I later asked him if the movie was a "date" or "hanging out" and he said it was a date. He also wants us to go on a date in 2 days (not movies).

I just feel like this thing we did at the movies is a one way road to disaster, i really like him and i really liked what we did, i absolutely enjoyed every minute of it, but i feel like getting naughty then is definitely not going to lead to anything good and might lead to a FWB situation which i am alright with but would rather have more.

For our next date i have decided that we definitely won't be getting physical but just hanging out, talking and getting to know each other more.
