Is it normal to have kissed same-sex friends during teenage years if straight?

Hey, I'm curious... I'd like to know how common people think it is to kiss (passionately) friends of the same sex during teenage and adolescent years, even if you're straight. I shared a few smooches with a couple of female friends but it wasn't the same as kissing guys. Personally, I think it's part of exploring sexuality and I think it's fairly common... but a few people have been a bit shocked when I've mentioned it!? Please answer my poll on this one, thanks.

Help us keep this site organized and clean. Thanks!

  • I think it's a lot more common for women to do it than men. If straight men are going to experiment, they don't kiss. They just get straight down to oral sex.

    • I've heard kissing is more of a female thing anyway. So it makes sense.

      • Ahh, I don't know. I'd go crazy if someone told me I'd never kiss anyone again. Although I'd probably go even crazier if someone said I'd only ever kiss men from this point on!

  • Human sexuality is pretty complicated. This isn't really abnormal, teenagers (And adults) experiment with a lot of things like this.

  • I am female and have kissed most of my female friends. Way more than twice but there wasn't a poll option for that.
The few people that have been shocked are usually not experimental, slightly close minded and boring. It is totally normal for teenage girls to experiment with their same sex friends. I even went the full way and had sex with my female friend when I was about 15/16.

    • You know I always wonder how do these teenagers get away with sex and not having to worry about family walking in. Where did you go to not get caught?

      • It happened in my bedroom at some early hours in the morning when drunk.
My mum was having a big house party for her birthday so everyone was too distracted to check on us.
I don't exactly regret what happened but still would rather it to have not happened in all honesty.

        • Why are you regretting it?

          • I suppose I always wanted to experiment with a girl just to see what it's like. But I wish I didn't do it with my friend. I would rather experiment with a girl who I found attractive and who I connected with sexually. Me and my friend had none of that. It was just so boring and pointless and feel a bit stupid for admitting it. It's a bit of an embarrassment now since we only had a connection as friends, nothing more.

  • personally, i think the only thing that matters is what YOU want to define yourself as.

If you feel you're straight then your past experimentation doesn't matter. Don't let other people label you anything you don't want to be.

    • Ok what if two people say they are straight and one straight friend kisses the other friend and says "No I am straight."! How confused is the other straight person going to be if they did not like or want it?

      • What if they were made of green cheese?

It doesn't matter actually. What REALLY matters is whether or not the person knew that the other one did not want it before trying to plant a kiss.

If he/she knew and did it anyway that's pretty selfish and rude.

        • No idea how you are adding cheese to this. We are not talking about food. I think you need to focus. ADD is no excuse.

          • My cheese point is that if you start in with "what if" ... you can pretty much go anywhere and lose focus of the main point.

again the ONLY part that matters is whether or not the person giving the kiss knew that the other person didn't want one.

If he/she knows this and forces it... then they are rude and selfish

  • When I was 17, our neighbors had their grandkids visiting. Their 13 year old hung out with me a lot, and one night we were talking about movies, and the movie "Swordfish" came up. We ended up discussing the "can you use a computer while someone sucks you off" scene. We decided to find out. We did it for 10 minutes, taking turns. He asked me if I had ever "made love to anyone" and I said no. He then kissed me on the cheek, so I kissed his cheek back. Then we kissed on the lips, and proceeded to make-out. After another 10 minutes of some pretty heavy making out, he told me we were going to make love. We got ready, and then proceeded to do it. Afterwards (it took quite awhile actually), we cuddled, and softly kissed, until we both fell asleep.

I consider myself more straight than bi, and he was straight. But honestly, that was one of the best sexual experiences I've ever had.

    • Having sex with the same sex is not straight no matter how you put it.

      • Sex doesn't make someone gay or straight. The emotions attached with it make someone gay or straight.

It never even crossed my mind to date him, or marry him, or anything even remotely relationship-y.

When I picture my future it is with a woman, and children and preferably some kind of one story house near a nude beach.

Are you one of those, that thinks the type of lube someone uses, or whether they like pegging, or they prefer male with female in the porn, that it makes them gay?

        • I do not think it matters what porn some one watches. Porn is just porn. You are just watching not doing anything. Sex with same gender will never be straight as much as you say it is.

    • Same sex or not, sleeping with a 13 year old when you were 17 sounds pretty gross to me.

  • I made out with a bisexual friend of mine while we were both drunk, although that was to entertain my boyfriend. I haven't ever really had any bisexual urges or curiosity :)

  • It's normal. A lot of young people experiment with the same sex in their teen years. It's their way of exploring their sexuality.

  • Interesting and varied responses - thanks.

See, I think it's quite normal, especially amongst girls. I'm actually suprised that in the poll people have mostly said they never have. Maybe more guys answered?

Clearly there's more to being bi or gay than whether you like physical sexual contact with the same sex - you have to actually want a whole relationship with the same sex too. So I don't feel that it implies you're bi or gay - just being open minded and considering your sexuality, rather than having definate tendancies.

  • I have kissed one of my female friends, But that was because these guys wouldn't leave us alone so we said we were lesbians and they were like "prove it" so she kissed me lol we are both straight though. It wasn't like there was tongue involved though just lips.

  • I haven't done it, but I know people who have. They thought it was normal, I could care less

  • I would say yes.

  • I can't pick those answers because I've never kissed another guy, although I do think it is normal.

  • It's just exploring, you know if you're gay or not.

Alot of the confusion these days is because, pure and simple, people are dumber. Sexuality comes into being before you start high school! You don't choose it, you don't control it.
